A Tribute to Leonard Nimoy

Hey guys....

Soooo...the awesomeamazingsupercoolunrealisticallytalented actor Leonard Nimoy passed away yesterday. :( So I only thought it would be nice to do a post full of pictures of him. As Spock. Oh, and none of these are mine.

(He's the one in the blue shirt.)

Literary Heroine Blog Party

Hola!

So, I'm taking part in the Literary Heroine Blog Party at Accordion to Kellie. First there are some questions you can answer for a link-up. Here we go!

1. Introduce yourself! Divulge your life's vision, likes, dislikes, aspirations, or something completely random!

I look like Taylor. My eye color is even the exact shade.  A waitress has given me the nickname "Mini Taylor" and that's how she remembers me. XD

My name is Lydia Therese. I'm 10 years old and I live in New Hampshire, USA. I'm christian and homeschooled. I love photography, blogging, dolls (people who have not come here from that blog, GO HERE!!!)  music, reading, and writing. Uh, what else? Nothing else, really. :P

2. What, to you, forms the essence of a true heroine?
Hmmm....I'll have to get back to you on that one.

3. Share (up to) four heroines of literature that you most admire and relate to.

Lucy Pevensie
I admire Lucy a lot. She has so much faith in Aslan - I want to be like her and have unlimited trust in God.

Trixie Belden
Trixie is just awesome. :3

Anne (Shirley) Blythe
Again, Anne is just awesome.

And Jessie Alden.
From the Boxcar Children. That book is so stinkin' cute. ^_^
Anyway, I'm exactly like her as far as personality.
4. Five of your favorite historical novels?

(It isn't a novel, but I don't read a lot of novels, soooo....)
5. Out of those five books who is your favorite major character and why?
Probably Miriam Willard, from Calico Captive. She has to deal with lots of suffering, betrayal, and...weeeellll...I don't know. She's just awesome and learns so much along the road of her journey. She's also from New Hampshire.
6. Out of those five books who is your favorite secondary character?
Most definitely, Macy from Thick as Thieves. **SPOILERS**
Macy starts out mean and dirty and a bully. Everyone dislikes her from the start. But in the book through the twists and turns, she grows gentler. You also warm up to Macy when you see how mean her brothers treated her. In the end she is one of my favorite characters in a book ever. :)
**NO MORE SPOILERS**

7. If you were to plan your dream vacation, where would you travel to, and what would you do there?
I would go to Canada and
go to Prince Edward Island.
Visit Kingston. Again.
Meet the Property Brothers (HEY, they are Canadian, IT COULD HAPPEN)
Spend a day at sea
Shop. Shop. Shop. And shop a bit more.

8. What is your favorite time period and culture to read about?
The early 1900's.

9. You have been invited to perform at the local charity concert. Singing, comedy, recitation, tap dancing...what is your act compromised of?
Singing. I would sing The Call by Regina Spektor. I am listening to it as I type this.
(It also doesn't have any high notes.)

10. If you were to attend a party where each guest was to portray a heroine of literature, who would you select to represent?
I would choose Susan, but I look nothing like her. Soooo...
TRIXIE! If my hair was in a bob we could be twins!

11. Favorite author(s)?
Susan K. Marlow (She's so nice, replies personally to every email, has a BLOG and sometimes shows up in the chatbox to talk with her loyal fans, and of course her writing is SOOOOOOO awesome.) ;)
C.S. Lewis!!!!
Julie Campbell

12. In which century were most of the books you read written?
Modern day, although I've read TONS of historical novels and books, too.

13. In your opinion, the ultimate hero in all literature is...
ASLAN!

14. In your opinion, the most dastardly villain of all literature is...
The White Witch? No, because she's just lame for thinking she could REALLY kill Aslan. *snort*
Telmarines.

15. Describe your ideal dwelling place.
Cair Paravel. LOL JK. Well, no, not really, but in real life...

A medium-sized house with a big garden and apple orchard with a husband and three kids and a dog, horse, three cats. Oh, and the house would have shutters. Shutters make any house look so quaint and cute. (That's a good thing.)

16. Sum up your fashion style in a short sentence.
I like trendy as long as it's modest. ;)

17. Three favorite Non-fiction books?
I have never read a Non-fiction book. Beside my history textbook.
*gasp*

18. Your duties met for the day, how would you choose to spend a carefree Summer afternoon?
Grab The Horse and His Boy and climb a tree and read, the soft wind making the leaves rustle softly. ;)

19. Create a verbal sketch of your dream hat - in such a way that will best portray your true character.
A floppy straw hat to shade my face from the sun. It would have a pretty blue ribbon around it and a big bow tied in the back.

20. Share the most significant event(s) that have happened in the past year.
I created Through the Wardrobe back in April!

21. Share the Bible passage(s) that have been most inspiring to you recently.
What does the Lord require of you? ...to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8

TV Shows I Love

Hello everyone!

Today I'm going to be posting about my favorite TV shows. I just realized all I watch are reality shows and old crime shows. Oh. XD

Columbo
I have nothing to say about this except how fast he figures out murders is insane and he would get along with Sherlock Holmes very well. :3

Hotel Impossible
It's about a guy named Anthony who comes in and saves hotels and gives rooms and pools or whatever needs it makeovers. And fixes whatever the owners are doing wrong and makes sure they do it right from then on. ;P
It sounds boring but it's really not...they are always on a time crunch because they only have 4 days. And this guy has a temper. Yeah. There is a lot of language (they BLEEP  the really bad ones). But I really love it and there are like only two episodes left for me to watch on Netflix. :( It's very addicting.

Mission: Impossible
Very very very suspenseful with lots of blood and bombs and shooting scenes. I don't watch it that often because everyone in my family hates it except me and my dad. XD

Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mysteries
I loved this show until the third season. :-/ They got rid of ND altogether and made the intro really cheesy. The third season got canceled after 10 episodes because they removed Nancy and nobody wanted to watch it. (At least, that's what I think. XD)

Rehab Addict
It's about a lady who buys old houses and fixes them up, then sells them and buys another. My family is watching it as I type this so I better finish this post quick so I don't miss anything. XD

Restaurant Impossible
It's exactly like Hotel Impossible but with a different guy and with restaurants. Robert is awesome. ^_^

Star Trek TOS
Of course I save the best for last. :) Star Trek TOS is AMAZING. Treat yourself and go watch it.  But don't get it mixed up with the other versions. Anyway, it's a show about the future done like 40 years ago. It's really good but it's so funny how all their equipment which would seem so futuristic a few decades ago, but now all the stuff seems primitive. :P
Anywaaaay, it's a really good show and my all-time favorite.
Bye!

Book Review: Elsie Dinsmore

Hi everyone!

(This post does have spoilers for the first Elsie Dinsmore book.)

So as you might know, I am not very good at book reviews. But I wanted to do one today! So to make it easier for me and more enjoyable for you, I'm going to make a list of stuff to fill out about the book I'm reviewing. Tel me what you think. Do you like "Pros and Cons" better, or this?

Anyway, here we go!

Name: Elsie Dinsmore by Martha Finley

Description: Living with her uncle's family on a southern plantation in the mid-nineteenth century, motherless eight-year-old Elsie finds it difficult to establish a relationship with her worldy father who seems indifferent to her religious principles.

Hated, Liked, or Loved?: Liked

How long of a read?: It took me a couple days.

Age Recommendation: Girls 10+

Thoughts: I had tried Elsie Dinsmore once before a few years ago - and hated it. It was long, it was sad, and I couldn't really understand it too well because it was written so long ago and I was reading it in the original text. But a couple days ago I was looking for something else to read while I was waiting for my latest Trixie Belden to come in the mail and I found it. I decided to give it another try.
It was really good! It is a Christ-centered story set in the 19oos. Elsie loves Jesus and reads her Bible constantly, and strives to be good like him. When her father finally returns, there are a number of scenarios between her and him until he finally learns to love her.
Oh my goodness. It was a good book, but it was so outdated! There were sentences like this:
"O! miss Adelaide;" and other ones like that.  It also used words which made it difficult for me to understand when I was little. And like books sometimes do, it left off kind of like another chapter was going to start but it was really the end of the novel. Then you have to go buy the second one to find out what happens. Ugh.
Anyway, aside from that it was a very very very good book with good morals and an interesting plot. I would recommend this book to a friend. :)

Rating:
I give it four and a half stars out of five.

So I hope you enjoyed this! :)

To Read

Hi everyone!

Sooo...first of all, do you like the new blog design? The lovely Autumn did it. It is sooo cool, thanks so much Autumn!

Anyway, today I am going to post the books that are on my current "To Read" list. So here we go. :)

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
If J.R.R. Tolkien was friends with C.S. Lewis, The Hobbit has to be good. LOL. It's a bit dark for my age, but in a few years I'll try it.

LOTR Trilogy also by J.R.R. Tolkien
Same with The Hobbit, LOTR Trilogy is a bit dark for me but I'll try it in a few years.

The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens
My friend said she was reading this, so I want to try it out. The description says it's as epic as Narnia. I kind of doubt that, but I'll read it anyway. XD

Pat of Silver Bush by L.M. Montgomery
I LOVED Emily of New Moon and the Anne of Green Gables series, so of course I am going to have to read Pat of Silver Bush and Mistress Pat.

Tunnel of Gold by Susan K. Marlow
I love Mrs. M's writing, it is amazing. I've read all of the Circle C Adventures series and the first Circle C Milestones book, and loved them both, so I want to read this really bad. The MC also meets Chad (the MC of Circle C Adventures and Circle C Milestones' big brother) in the second book, so I want to get my hands on this one as soon as possible.

Into the Wild by Erin Hunter
I've seen these books floating around and an employee at a bookstore specifically recommended these to me, so I want to see what they are like. :)
The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare
I was supposed to read this for school but kind of skipped it. I read Calico Captive also by the same author and it was a beautifully written romance, so I want to try this one again.
so that about wraps it up! What are some of the books on your "To Read" list?

Beautiful People: February

Hey everyone!
Today I am going to be doing the Beautiful People linkup. Learn more about it by clicking the button below:

Okay, so this month's theme is couples. The two people I'm going to be focusing on today are Wills and Felicity, the two main characters in my book. So let's get started!

1. How long have they been a couple?
They met each other two days ago. ^_^
2. How did they first meet?
It's a long story, but here it goes:
Felicity got captured by Rowan and they were trapped in this underground cell thing and then they hear footsteps on the trap door and then Wills unlocks it with this key he found and they climbed out and then Felicity's sisters went off and they started talking. Whew.
3. What were their first thoughts of each other? (Love at first sight or "you're freakishly annoying"?)
Felicity is thinking "Oh no he's an enemy we will be killed!" XD
And Wills is just thinking "................" (Because you know he got magically transported to another world so you can't blame him.)
4. What do they do that most annoys each other?
Umm, not there yet.
5. Are their personalities opposite or similar?
They are so similar they should be long lost twins. ^_^
6. How would their lives be different without each other?
Felicity would be dead and her family's land would be Hehines' land, and Wills would be a major pushover.
7. Are they ever embarrassed of each other?
not at this point in the book.
8. Does anyone disapprove of their relationship?
No. Her sisters tried getting suitors for Felicity once and she just locked herself up in her room and cried, so they are happy she had found someone. :P
9. Do they see their relationship as long-term/leading to marriage?
I am planning to get them married. Sometime. If I can figure out a good plot that makes it exciting. (Because my trilogy is like epic fantasy not romance.)
10. If they could plan the "perfect outing" together, where would they go?
Big field, pretty woods, magical creatures.

Hope you enjoyed! I had a lot of fun answering these. :)
