VBS 2016

Hello!

This past week I volunteered for VBS at our church. VBS stands for Vacation Bible School and is a week-long program for kids ages Pre-K through 5th grade. Our church has a really big program. This year we had around 85 kids.

I volunteered to help out with the 2nd grade group. I got paired with a girl I had never met before (she was really nice) and a friend of mine. And then our leader, of course (who I actually was with last year, as well).

It was so rewarding and fun, so I thought I'd share a few stories and experiences. :)

The first day everybody had to get into the routine. I met the kids, who were all really sweet (even a couple difficult ones weren't that bad). We had a new theme for each day, so the first was one that "God gives us hope!". We led the kids around to the different stations around the church - games, Bible, crafts, and snack.

Whenever the kids ask you to do something, it is literally SO rewarding. When they want piggybacks or play with your hair, or beg you to participate in games because they really like you. :)

The third day I met a girl who seemed to really take a liking to me. At the end of the day, when her mom came to pick her up, she mentioned that she apparently really liked me.

And on the fifth and final day, she handed me an envelope all closed up with My Little Pony duct-tape. I opened it at the end of the day and it was a letter. IT WAS SO CUTE, YOU GUYS!!!!!!! She said she really liked me and I felt like a sister to her. :D I was asked about babysitting by her mom, too (which I didn't really feel comfortable with at my age, but perhaps next year).

Actually there's a funny story because of the letter. After VBS I went to show all my friend in the hospitality room, the place where the workers take breaks and get a snack during the day. Everyone always gathers there once VBS is finished. xD

Anyway. my friend (Friend 1) was holding the letter and a boy from my Sunday School class was reading it over her shoulder. My other friend (Friend 2) was walking around and pouring little bits of water on peoples' heads from a paper cup. (Don't ask me why, no idea xD)

Friend 2 proceeded to do it to Friend 1. She was so startled she took her elbow and stabbed the boy with it, and he collapsed on the ground. (For show, of course, don't worry XD).

He thought it was the boy, but it was actually Friend 2! Friend 1 clapped her hands over her mouth and started apologizing over and over. Then we all burst out laughing as we watched him rolling around on the carpet and groaning (once again, for show. Boys 9.9)

So yeah, that's VBS and my funny story. XD Congrats if you read through this entire thing! *claps*

I wish I could show you pictures, but it has the kids in it as well and I don't think their parents would appreciate me putting their faces on the internet. :P

Thanks for reading!

The Silent Blade Blog Tour

Hello!
*This is a scheduled blog post, I'm on vacation right now! :) So I won't be seeing or moderating comments until after I get back.

My friend Jesseca is holding a blog tour for her book, The Silent Blade, which is coming out tomorrow!!! I'm doing a review on the book. Here we go! :D

Dromiskin, Ireland. 925 AD.

Eira has no greater desire than to see her life returned to what it once was - before her older brother Kevin's sudden disappearance four years earlier. But the simple life she hoped for seems unattainable; on the contrary, her life is about to get all the more complicated.
When she suddenly finds herself and Willem, her twin brother, taken captive by someone who claims to be Kevin's enemy, things go from bad to worse. It soon becomes clear that she and Willem are to become bait trap set for Kevin, and Eira knows she must try to warn him. But how, when she herself is a captive?
As mysteries of the past are unveiled, and loyalties are revealed, Eira realizes how precious her friends truly are. And when mortal danger threatens those nearest to her, will she be able to trust God with the lives of her friends and family?

                 ***
Firstly, the characters were so loveable! I liked how Eira was a strong female character without being super-tough like in a lot of YA novels these days.

The ending was super satisfying. The part after the battle almost made me cry. So happy!! So sweet!!!

I found the beginning to be a bit confusing. There was one character and then there were three other characters and I was like, "Where is the first character???" it was explained early into the book, however.

Overall, I give this book 4.5 stars out of five! I absolutely LOVED it! :D

Aaaand...there's also a giveaway!! You can enter right here vvvv

A Novel Idea - 2

Hello!

Today I'm participating in A Novel Idea, a writing linkup hosted by Sky at Further Up and Further In and Ashley at Ashley Aspires. Click on the button below to learn more!

This week, make a collage with pictures that describe one of your characters. You can use pictures of your character or pictures that describe him/her (or both!). Have fun with this - don't overthink it! Hopefully it'll be a nice break from actually writing and help you learn more about your character at the same time!

I had waaay too much fun with this one. :D Once again I'm using Olivia from my Star Trek fanfiction. (Second book almost done XD)

The first picture just reminded me of Olivia. She wears a yellow uniform, so I just included some pictures of yellow flowers. :P

The second picture is a phaser, the weapon Olivia carries around with her most of the time.

The third picture is of space because...well...I think you can guess why. xD

The fourth picture is of the Star Trek crew. They are such a big part of Olivia's life, and of the book series, so of course I had to put in a picture of them.

The quote in the middle I thought really described the focus of the entire series. It's based a lot on family (and what it's about), togetherness, and finding where your home really is. You wouldn't think a fanfiction would be this deep but it really just turned out that way. xD

The sixth picture is of Anna Popplewell. I use her for book covers and trailers. She's not exactly how I imagine Olivia (jet black hair, green eyes, no freckles or dimple, much younger) but she's the easiest person to find pictures and video clips of for me. :P

The seventh picture I imagine as a journal or diary, and the first story I ever wrote with Olivia in it was supposed to be her writing in her "old-fashioned" diary.

Another picture of Olivia. :P

And finally, some more yellow flowers to finish everything off. XD

So there we go! I had so much fun with the post this week. Hope you guys enjoyed!

Beautiful People - July 2016

Hello!

I'm participating in the linkup "Beautiful People", hosted by Sky at Further Up and Further In and Cait at Paper Fury. If you want to learn more about the linkup (anyone can participate) click the button below! :)

I'm going to be using my character Olivia from my Star Trek fanfiction...I know that some people could say doesn't really count as a book since it's only a fanfiction, but I really enjoy writing these things, and I'm writing for myself, not other people. :)

1) DO THEY WANT TO GET MARRIED AND/OR HAVE CHILDREN? WHY OR WHY NOT?
Olivia is open to either one. She thinks, if she wants to pursue a career in Starfleet, it would be easier to stay unmarried. But at the same time, she wants to have kids and give them the love that she had never known for at least twelve years.

2) WHAT'S THEIR WEAPON OF CHOICE? (IT DOESN'T NECESSARILY HAVE TO BE A PHYSICAL WEAPON.)
A phaser, of course. ;)

3) WHAT'S THE NICEST THING THEY'VE EVER DONE FOR SOMEONE ELSE, AND WHY DID THEY DO IT?
I think one of the nicest things she's ever done is risking her life, and ever seeing her new family again, to help a girl being held captive in a strange place. Olivia may seem snarky and sarcastic on the outside, but she has a soft spot in her heart for girls like her who were lonely and afraid.

4) HAVE THEY EVER BEEN PHYSICALLY VIOLENT WITH SOMEONE, AND WHAT INSTIGATED IT?
She has, quite a few times. She didn't want to fight, but sometimes people or creatures forced her to act in self-defense.

5) ARE THEY A RULE-FOLLOWER OR A REBEL?
Well, let's see...
She often tries (and succeeds) in going to places her father forbids.
Rarely she does her math on time without stalling.
She often messes around with the medical equipment when she's bored.
So, I'd say she's more of a rebel. :P

6) ARE THEY ORGANIZED OR MESSY?
Olivia likes being organized (her stepfather definitely did not have OCD, so she had to live in a really messy house all the time) but sometimes she just gets too busy. It depends on how much time she has on her hands.

7) WHAT MAKES THEM FEEL LOVED, AND WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON TO MAKE THEM FEEL THAT WAY?
Somebody really, actually genuinely caring. Somebody willing to give up a little bit of time in their day to spend time with her. Winks and smiles whenever she passes by the other person.
The whole Starfleet crew has made her feel that way. They've been so open and kind with her, and really made her feel like she belongs. She doesn't feel like the only kid on the ship - she feels like another person in the crew.

8) WHAT DO THEY EAT FOR BREAKFAST?
Hmmm...rubbery pancakes generated from he materializing system. They honestly aren't very good.

9) HAVE THEY EVER LOST SOMEONE CLOSE TO THEM? WHAT HAPPENED?
Both her parents. Her father died in a car crash, then her mother remarried. Then her mother died of an illness.

10) WHAT'S THEIR TREAT OF CHOICE? (OR, IF NOT FOOD, HOW DO THEY REWARD THEMSELVES?)
Her treat of choice is definitely strawberry shortcake. She had it homemade for her thirteenth birthday on the ship instead of cake.

That about wraps it up! Thanks for reading everyone!
